Facilities
An Organized Research Unit of the University of California, Davis the Bodega Marine Laboratory is a specialized facility equipped with sophisticated technology, an instrument and sensor network and long term environmental data record, the Cadet Hand Library, teaching classrooms and lecture hall, dorms, wet labs, greenhouses, vessel fleet, dive training facility and high-flow seawater system. Located within a 362 acre research reserve (part of UC Natural Reserve System) BML offers access to a diversity of coastal habitats and proximity to California Current System, local bays, rivers and estuaries and Marine Protected Areas.
Aquatic Resources – Facility-wide animal care and life support services
Boating Safety Program – Training in small boat operations, seamanship, first aid, CPR, and more for boat users
Bodega Marine Reserve – Located on the wind-swept headlands of California’s north coast, a 362-acre coastal reserve meets a state-protected marine reserve
Bodega Ocean Observing Node – A coastal ocean observing system centered at BML and focused on collecting environmental and oceanographic data to inform research on the coasts of northern California
Climate Change Research Facility – Two large, specialized laboratories allow researchers simultaneous control of multiple environmental variables to study climate change
Dive Program – Premier scientific research dive training facility
Fluorescence Imaging Facility – Includes a scanning laser confocal microscope and a fluorescence video imaging system
Housing and Conference Facilities – The BML Housing Enclave is located approximately one mile from the Laboratory and offers many lodging options to the short or long term visitor
Information Technology – Network, computer, audio visual technology service and support
Physical Plant Services – The Laboratory’s Physical Plant personnel provide expertise in engineering, fabrication, plumbing and carpentry, facilities maintenance and more
